Background: Extraction is one of the most common dental medical procedures done in dentistry. Impacted third molars require a Transalveolar Extraction. There are chances for incidence of various complications after extraction of third molars. One such complication is Trismus. Trismus is also known as lockjaw. When a third molar is extracted, there is damage to the tissue which results in an inflammatory reaction. It is very important for dentists to remember the factors leading to Trismus and perform extraction so they can prevent Incidence of Trismus. A dentist should also be aware of how to treat Trismus after third molar extraction. Aim: The aim of this survey is to create awareness among dental practitioners about Trismus occurring after third Molar extraction. Material and method : It is a survey based study done in an online setting. A questionnaire was prepared and circulated among dental students in the Chennai population. The online survey was conducted on survey planet. The sample size was 105 dental students. The sampling method used is simple random sampling. Randomisation was done to minimise any bias. Data collected was entered in Excel. Data analysis was done in SPSS Software. Statistical test was the Chi square test. Independent variables are demographics such as age, gender whereas dependent variables are trismus, third molar extraction. Results: According to this study, About 95.2% dental practitioners are aware of the term trismus. Dental students are well aware of trismus and ways to manage it as well.
