Knowledge and awareness among parents and dentists regarding rehabilitation with full coverage restoration in children

Abstract: Early childhood caries is a common problem that a child faces. Care should be given or else the child faces difficulty in eating, esthetics. It is necessary to place crowns after treating the primary tooth. Their treatment provides masticatory effects, esthetics, ease in eating and also speech. The aim of the study was to analyse the knowledge and awareness among the parents and dentists regarding rehabilitation with full coverage restoration in children. A questionnaire based cross- sectional study was conducted among 200 participants including 100 parents and 100 dentists. The statistical tests used were descriptive and chi square tests and the statistical software used was SPSS version 22. The confidence level was kept at 95% and the p value less than 0.05 was considered as statistically significant. 49.5% agreed that pulpally involved primary teeth are important and 45% parents responded RCT is done for primary teeth, 50% dentists responded that RCT is the best treatment for pulpally involved primary teeth and 56% dentist that full coverage restoration is lab fabricated. The overall knowledge and awareness was good among the dentists. Postgraduate level educated parents and MDS level educated dentists had good knowledge on rehabilitation with full coverage restoration in children.
