Control of Wound Infecting Pathogens Using Coriander Oleoresin Mediated Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles

Author: KARISHMA DESAI, ANITHA ROY, RAJESHKUMAR S, DR. LAKSHMI THANGAVELU
Abstract: Aim: To synthesise coriander oleoresin mediated zinc oxide nanoparticle and to evaluate its effect on wound infecting pathogens Materials and Methods: 500 µL of coriander oleoresin and 100 mL of distilled water was added to a conical flask and mixed continuously for 10 minutes. Later, 0.861 g of Zinc Sulphate was added to the flask and again mixed for 10 minutes. After this, the solution was placed in an orbital shaker to facilitate and allow the constant mixing of the solution. The precipitate was collected and nanoparticles were obtained after centrifugation. The nanoparticles obtained were used in different concentrations of 50, 100 and 150 µL against the wound healing pathogens. The zone of inhibition was obtained and checked alongside a standard Antibiotic. Results and Discussion: The zinc oxide nanoparticles were checked for their activity against wound infecting pathogens. Such pathogens interfere with the process of wound healing and delay the process further causing complications. The zinc oxide nanoparticles have a good control on wound infecting pathogens like Klebsiella, Pseudomonas and E.coli. The best antibacterial activity was seen against E.coli, with a zone of inhibition of 30 mm. Klebsiella showed 27 and Pseudomonas 22mm by the coriander oleoresin mediated zinc oxide nanoparticles Conclusion: The coriander oleoresin mediated Zinc Oxide NPs showed good antibacterial activity against wound pathogens hence it may be incorporated into creams that are applied over wounds .Further research can be done to facilitate the incorporation of these nanoparticles into wound healing creams to help in avoiding infection of the wound.
