Knowledge and Awareness on Traumatic Dental Injuries in Dental Undergraduates

Abstract:

Dental trauma Refers to the trauma (injury), to the teeth or the periodontal ligament and the nearby soft tissues such as lips, tongue, et cetera. The study of dental trauma is called dental trauma ology (Andreason and Ship, 1982). This happens especially at young age primary dentition states, mixed dentition stage, permanent dentition Page. And this shows that I am more prone to traumatic dental injuries(Filho et al., 2006) . Sports, specially contact sports such as football hockey rugby basketball have a higher rate of traumatic dental injuries. In this study Self administered questionnaires designed based on the traumatic dental injuries and distributed through an online survey link the study population included dental undergraduates. The participants were explained about the purpose of study in detail and statistically analysed using SPSS. The analysis shows 71.4% of the population have answers that they have previous traumatic experiences and an amount of 28.6% are not. Road accidents can even cause traumatic dental injuries. From the study, it was concluded that the awareness of traumatic dental injuries among dental practitioners are satisfactory.
