Stress is one of the challenges faced by people around the world. This stress under its limits is essential for a man to drive him to meet his financial and emotional commitments in life. But when it exceeds its limitation, it becomes a burden to him physically and mentally. Among many stressors that we face in our daily life, noise is a commonly encountered stress. Noise stress for a duration of 28 days comes under the category chronic noise stress. Many Allopathic as well as Siddha and Ayurvedic medicines have been explored as antidotes to protect against the oxidative stress induced by noise stress. In the present study planned to evaluate the effect of ethanolic extract of Pergularia daemia (PD) against chronic noise stress on parameters like plasma corticosterone and enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxidant enzymes like SOD, CAT, GPX,GSH, LPO and Vitamin C levels in four discrete regions of the brain namely cerebral cortex, corpus striatum, hippocampus and hypothalamus. The results of the present study revealed that chronic noise stress groups significantly decreased the levels of plasma corticosterone, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase reduced glutathione and vitamin C and increased the lipid peroxidation in all the discrete regions of brain. Ethanolic extract of PD significantly prevented against the chronic noise stress induced changes , thus serving as an effective antidote against noise stress
