An invitro evaluation for the antisnakevenom phytochemicals from the plant Mesua Ferrea Linn against the venom Echis Carinatus (Russel viper)

Abstract: Snake envenomation is the major health hazards throughout the world .Approximately worldwide 2.5 million people affected per year .Many antiserum have been developed against the snake envenomation. These antiserum were developed by polyvalent method by using the venoms of two or more snake species .The victim may lead to severe side effect such as anaphylactic shock, pyrogen reaction and serum sickness because of the presence of non-immunoglobulin protein in higher concentration and moreover the cost of the treatment is cannot be affordable for the common people particularly from the rural areas. From the ancient time plant based medicine recommended for the snake bite therapy because of their antidote action and many not yet proved scientifically. Hence in the present study, an attempt has been made to detect the presence of antivenom phytochemical present in plant mesua ferrea Linn by performing the enzyme inhibition assays such as proteases and acetylcholine esterase’s present in the venom of Echis carinatus.The half maximum inhibitory concentration was taken in to account (IC50) and among all the test samples the hydro alcoholic extract of the plant mesua ferrea were shows highest activity with an IC50 of 890 µg/ml followed by chloroform (1102µg/ml) and Hexane (1933ug/ml),in case of acetyl cholinesterase inhibition activity. Similarly, in protease inhibition also the hydro alcoholic extract where shows the highest activity with an IC50 of 744.3 µg/ml followed by chloroform (1031 µg/ml) and hexane (1944 µg/ml)
