The article examines the process of origin and development of women's sports in Russia in the first three decades of the XX century. The problems of the birth of women's sports in the country at the beginning of the 20th century are noted, the results of women's participation in the First Russian Olympiad in 1913 and the All-Union Spartakiad in 1928 are shown. Sports societies that have cultivated various sports among women are represented.
