Phytochemical Extraction, Screening of Phytoconstituents Isolated from Alangium Salvifolium Flowers.

Author: , AVINASH SHANKAR BHOSALE, GURDEEP SINGH
Abstract: Alangium salvifolium having tremendous historical evidence of being used in treatment of various ailments. Its roots, leaves, stem and bark were used in the Ayurveda and Siddha systems of medicines for the treatment of various diseases. Alangium salvifolium is reported to contain various biologically active alkaloidal phytoconstituents such as salsoline, ankorine, tubulosine, alangine, alangicine etc. It is known to posses wide spectrum of biological activities as antidiabetic, antiulcer, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-arthritic, diuretic, antifertility, anthelmintic, antiepileptic and antifungal etc. In the preceding research after successive extraction with ethyl acetate and methanol; the crude powder of leaves of Alangium salvifolium showed the presence of carbohydrate, glycosides, alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, tannins, and saponins. The complete phenolic compounds and flavonoids in quantities expressed as gallic acid equals and rutin equivalents were also quantitative study. The cumulative phenolic content of ethyl acetate extract was 95.300 mg/gm in Alangium salvifolium and 131.60 mg/gm in methanol. The overall flavonoid content of ethyl acetate extract from Alangium salvifolium was 152.80 mg/gm and 264.200 mg/gm for methanol extract. The overall amount of phenolics and flavonoids in methanol extract was highest. Spectral analysis of fractions by IR NMR and MASS Spectra confirm the existence of benzene, hydroxyl protons. Mass spectrum thus shows that the compound may have a quercetin glycoside nucleus.
Keyword: Alangium salvifolium, total flavonoids, total phenolics, quercetin glycoside.
