In modern society, in order to increase personal appearance, cosmetics and personal care products emerge as human need, as a consequence the market of cosmetics products increased significantly year by year. For the sake of product’s appearance and cost reduction, cosmetics and personal care products may use non-halal components such as lard (in cream, lipstick and lotions) and porcine gelatin (in capsule containing active ingredients in cosmetics). Non-halal cosmetics is avoided by Muslim communities, therefore some detection methods were used and developed for detection of non-halal components in cosmetics products for the success of halal certification, especially in counties having policy of mandatory halal certification. This review highlighted some analytical techniques reported in some scientific publications for analysis of non-halal components in cosmetics products. FTIR spectroscopy, chromatography and polymerase chain reaction has been successfully developed, validated used for analysis of non-halal components in cosmetics products such as cream and lipsticks.
