Recently delivery system via skin become the most attractive routes for drug delivery because of its improved and simple accessibility. Efficient deliverance of active molecules through skin is however remains a challenge, skin barrier is a major barrier for penetration and transport of most of the drugs. To overcome these problems vesicular formulations are introduced for better skin permeability of drugs. Many Conventional lipid based vesicular systems like liposomes and niosomes are developed but they are ineffective in crossing stratum corneum barrier of skin, so as an alternative ethanol based vesicle system like transethosomes and ethosomes can be utilized for better delivering of drug to inner layers of skin. These Ultradeformable vesicles have proven for improved and novel topical delivery. Ethosomes are formulated with phospholipid and ethanol , transethosomes in addition contains edge activators or surfactants and penetration enhancers like oleic acid and more. Transethosomes have properties of both Transferosomes and ethosomes and being a non invasive technique it provides a better patient compliance. Transethosomes in recent times emerged as an important delivery system for better and novel topical therapies. They shows both the quality of becoming deformable and skin permeation. They can distort and surpass through a narrow constriction that is less than its own diameter. High permeation of the vesicles is due to its property of deformability. Its composition, features, method of preparation, characterization and potent applications will be discussed briefly in review with its restrictions and future prospectus.
