Author: SARAH AL-MOUSLY, FOUAD KADHIM GATEA, ENAS JAWAD, BAN QASIM
Abstract: The majority of women with poly cystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have been recognized with ovulatory disturbance, pathological changes in morphology of the ovary and metabolic dysfunction (such as insulin resistance and hyperlipidemia) that result in increasing the rate of infertility risk. Different chemical compounds of Capparis spinosa aerial parts has been previously used in treatment of hyperlipidemia, diabetes, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect. The aim of this work is to investigate wither Capparis spinosa extract has a protective effect on metabolic and hormonal parameter in a mice model of PCOS. Induction of PCOS by using Letrozole (10 mg/kg) that was administered orally (p.o) for duration of 21 days, followed by a dose of Metformin (50mg/100g) for first group, Capparis spinosa L.(Low dose 150 mg/kg) for second group and Capparis spinosa H.(High dose 250 mg/kg) for third group, treatment received for 30 days by using 0.5% w/v CMC as a vehicle. The administration of Letrozole led to abnormality in estrous cycle of mice and histopathology for ovaries shown multiple cystic and atretic follicles while absence of corpus luteum, Capparis spinosa was able to restore all negatively observing metabolic and reproductive parameters that taken in to consideration during the study and converting them to normal manner in order for reoccurring of ovulation through effectively applying its protective outcome and finally disappearance of cysts in ovaries.
