Enhancement of Mechanical Properties of Inorganic Glass under Ultrasonic Treatment

Abstract:

In this work, the problem of increasing the strength of silicate glasses by various methods, including the method of ion exchange in a molten salt, is considered. It is shown that the rate of the ion exchange process is significantly influenced by the diffusion of K and Na ions to the surface of the glass sample to be hardened. The possibility of using ultrasonic treatment of the melt to increase the rate of ion diffusion and increase the efficiency of glass strengthening by ion exchange is discussed.
