Awareness about Personal Protective Measures to be followed in Dental Laboratory - A Survey

Abstract:

Background: Dental laboratory is a place where many studies are done also where different kinds of microorganisms are present. Improper usage of chemicals and materials can cause infections which may lead to diseases. It is important to sterilise and make the environment disease free and disinfected.
Aim: To elaborate on the knowledge on personal protective equipment in the dental laboratory.
Materials and method: The study was conducted through an online setting and dental professional participated. The sample size was 100 based on power analysis. The sampling method is simple random sampling and statistical software is SPSS.
Result: 77.23% were aware of personal protective measures, 32.67% protective measures used was gowns, gloves and mask, 81.19% chose infection can spread through improper handling of materials. Overall they lack awareness on usage of PPE.
Conclusion: Usage of PPE and disinfectants in the laboratory with recommended protocols can minimize infection and establish disease free environment.
