Extraction is the most common oral surgical procedure which is indicated in conditions like unrestorable teeth with dental caries, therapeutic orthodontics, prosthodontic and pedodontic extractions and periodontally compromised teeth. Some patients who require extractions might be under medications such as oral anticoagulants due to their prevailing medical conditions. Extractions in such patients are performed after determining if the INR value is within the limits. Measures to control the post operative bleeding in some patients are carried out effectively by means of suturing. The study aims to assess the intraoperative and postoperative complications in patients under anticoagulant therapy and subjected to dental extractions. The study was performed in the out patient department of a private dental college. Data required for the study was procured by reviewing patient records between June 2019 to March 2020. Data required for the study include photographs of extraction, medical records of patients who were under anticoagulant therapy and subjected to extractions. The obtained data was sorted and statistically analysed using the IBM SPSS software analysis and the results interpreted. The postoperative bleeding was found to be negatively correlating with healing (p<0.05). Within the limits of the study, there exists a negative correlation between postoperative bleeding and healing of the extraction socket in patients who underwent extraction and were under anticoagulant therapy.
