Knowledge attitude and practice of using herbal and chemical mouthwashes among undergraduate dental students.

Abstract: Plaque is the primary factor responsible for dental diseases such as dental caries, gingivitis, and periodontitis. Dentist play a major role in maintenance of good oral hygiene, their opinion over the knowledge,attitude and practice regarding prescribing mouthwashes as agents of plaque control agents is of greater value and significance.The aim of this study was to analyse the knowledge attitude and practice of using herbal and chemical mouthwashes among undergraudate dental students.Self-administered questions were prepared and distributed through google forms among 100 participants.The data was then entered and statistically analysed.The results show that 56.9% of the participants prefer herbal mouthwashes. They are aware of the side effects of chemical mouthwash. Neem is the most common herb that the students are aware of.Findings of this study suggest that awareness on the importance and need of mouthwash for maintaining good oral hygiene needs to be enhanced among the students.
