Abstract:

The purpose of this survey was to assess the knowledge and opinion toward different treatment modalities for management of open apex among dentists of the southern part of India.A questionnaire consisting of 27 questions was formulated and these questions were divided into four parts, namely demographic, knowledge, attitude, and practice. This questionnaire was circulated among the endodontic postgraduate students, endodontists,general practitioners and post graduates of other specialities through electronic media. Based on responses from the participants to this multiple choice-based questionnaire, the survey was analyzed using Chi square test. Present survey revealed that more than 75% of the respondents had knowledge about different treatment modalities for management of open apex. Most of the respondents (80%) felt that this treatment strategy should be incorporated into regular practice. However, the results indicated that 70% of the respondents were practicing these treatment modalities. The results reflected that dentists in the southern part of India were well versed with different treatment modalities for management of open apex and were optimistic of implementing it, a need for additional training was felt.
