Awareness On Caffeine Addiction Among South Indian Population- A Survey

Abstract: Caffeine is a drug, which is consumed by the majority of the world population. It is available in various ingestible forms which makes it easier to consume. Caffeine is considered to be one of the major and most widely consumed stimulating drugs in this world. The effects of caffeine on the human body include cardiovascular diseases, insomnia, high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus and cancer lines etc. The withdrawal symptoms of caffeine include headache, flu like symptoms, fatigue etc. A questionnaire was distributed through an online google forms link to about 100 people of South Indian population belonging to all age groups. The study population were asked to fill out the forms. The results were collected and the data was analysed using SPSS version 20. When the study population was asked if they were aware about caffeine addiction and its effects, about 79.21% of the total respondents answered positively. 61% respondents were not aware of the fact that increased caffeine consumption might lead to diseases such as coronary heart disease, insomnia, high blood pressure etc. Conclusion: By this survey it is concluded that a more severe approach on the awareness of caffeine addiction and its various ill effects could be administered among the South Indian population for the betterment of lifestyle and health.
