Anti-inflammatory effect of tabat barito (Ficus deltoidea) leaf extract on DSS-induced mice colon

Author: KUSMARDI KUSMARDI, AFRA INTAN NURLAILI , ARYO TEDJO
Abstract: Purpose: To confirm that Ficus deltoidea leaf extract has an anti-inflammatory effect on DSS-induced mice colon. Methodology: This study was conducted using 24 stored tissue samples from previous study which are divided into four groups: negative control (DSS), positive control (aspirin), 25% Ficus deltoidea leaf extract, and 50% Ficus deltoidea leaf extract. Colon tissue histology sample is stained with hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining and examined on magnification of 40 x 10. Counted results of inflammation focus, angiogenesis, and goblet cells per crypt are analysed with ANOVA test and Bonferroni post hoc test with 20th version of SPSS software. Results: There is a significant increase number of goblet cells on the Ficus deltoidea leaf extract group at a concentration of 50% (p < 0,001). However, there is no significant effect of Ficus deltoidea leaf extract on inflammation focus and angiogenesis Conclusion: Ficus deltoidea leaf extract has an anti-inflammatory effect as shown by the increased number of goblet cells on the colon of DSS-induced mice.
