Polymerase chain reaction is a molecular biology technique which is used for copying, sequencing, quantifying a specific DNA rapidly using thermocycling and enzymes. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is ideal for replicating DNA without using living organisms such as yeast and E.coli. The PCR technique is a promising molecular biology technique that provides enormous benefits in medical diagnostics and life science research. Some of the fields where the PCR technique is extensively used are :-forensic science, diagnosis of infectious diseases, functional analysis of genes, recombinant DNA technology. The aim of this survey is to analyse the knowledge, awareness and perception on the applications of PCR technique among dental students. The online survey has been prepared with 10 questions regarding knowledge, awareness on the application of PCR technique and has been circulated to the participants through google docs. The results were obtained and statistically analysed through SPSS software, chi square test was done to check the association and a p value of 0.05 was said to be statistically significant. The survey was conducted in the month of May, 2020. From the data collected, it was noticed that 54.37% of the participants were aware about the PCR technique whereas 45.63 weren't and also found that both male and female students were equally aware of the PCR techniques(p-value>0.05). PCR technique plays an important role in dentistry. So it is important for dentists to learn PCR technique and its applications. This survey proves that most of the dental students were aware about the applications of PCR techniques and also found that both male and female students were equally aware of the PCR techniques.
