Awareness of Body Mass Index and its Influence on Oral Health - A Survey

Abstract: Body mass index is a value derived from the mass and height of a person. The formula for calculating the mass and height of a person. The formula for BMI is weight in kilograms divided by height in meter squared. BMI is used for population assessment of overweight and obesity. The key difference between overweight and obese are overweight is the excess amount of body weight that include muscle, bone, fat, and water while obese means excess amount of body fat. A survey was conducted and circulated among 200 dental students from chennai, through google forms with 15 questions. This survey depicts the awareness of BMI in relation to oral disease among the undergraduate dental students who are residing in Chennai. The questionnaire was circulated through social media like whatsapp. The conclusion of the study shows that dental students have a good level of knowledge about BMI and its importance.
