Abstract: Dentistry and oral health are at the heart of the systemic health of humans. An existing specific stimulus like injection or drilling can provoke dental fear. Fear and anxiety towards dentistry and dental treatment are both significant characters that contribute to avoiding dental care. Anxiety associated with the thought of visiting the dentist for preventive care and dental procedure is referred to as dental anxiety or odontophobia. The aim of this study was to ascertain the various causes of odontophobia among the Chennai population. This is a cross sectional descriptive survey that was conducted among 100 participants. The survey consists of a self-administered questionnaire that was circulated through google forms; The data were collected and tabulated. The data was then exported and appropriate statistical analysis was done. Pie chart and bar graph was used to represent the result. 26% of the participants were scared of dentists. The results show that odontophobia is more common among the females than the males. Fear of dental drill and Injection was found to be the main cause of odontophobia.
