Association Between Neck Pain and Lower Back Pain with Ergonomic Risk Factor Among Adults, Middle Aged and Student Population

Abstract: Neck pain is a musculoskeletal condition with high prevalence that may affect the physical, social and psychological aspects of the individuals, contributing to the increased costs in society and business. More acute low back pain is mechanical in nature, meaning that there is a disruption in the way the components of the back(muscle) fit together and move. This research evidence shows that most of the study population has neck pain and lower back pain, it is also considered to be very common. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to explore the association between neck pain and lower back pain with ergonomic risk factor among adults, middle aged and student population. The present study is a cross sectional study, where a questionnaire consisting of 14 questions were distributed to 100 individuals of different age groups from 20-65 years and the results were evaluated. The survey was carried out using self administered, structural and online based questions. Data was analysed using SPSS. The majority of the study population has both neck pain and lower back pain. 53.4% of the responded study population are IT professionals who are considered as one of the desk job employees and also 21.7% of the study population are maintaining similar positions at least a straight 7 hours. From this survey we can conclude that the majority of the study population are having both neck pain and lower back pain in common.
