Author: RANJITH RAJ VPRB, DR MARIAN ANAND BENNIS, DR MURUGAN THAMARAISELVAN
Abstract: Oral health of an individual is one of the most significant factors attributing to their overall well being and health. Loss of teeth can either be complete or partial. It is known as edentulism or partial edentulism. A nationwide study is not possible, yet community-based studies can be done. The study population was obtained based on the strict inclusion & exclusion criteria and by random sampling. After reviewing 86000 records of outpatients who visited the institution from March 2019 to June 2020,1572 records of patients aged 18-25 were obtained and exported to IBM SPSS software for further analysis using tests of Chi-square, Descriptives and cross-tabulations. This retrospective cross-sectional study had 965 male participants and 607 female participants with an average age of 22, Mean age was 22.18 (SD+2.185). 435 patients did not opt for any prosthodontic treatment. Fixed dental prostheses which included both Implants and fixed partial denture were the most opted treatment (71.9%). The prevalence rate of partial edentulousness in this population is 89.7%. Males had a higher prevalence rate of partial edentulousness 61.4%. Within the limits of the study, it may be concluded that the young adult population had a high prevalence rate of 89.7% and the most preferred method of replacement was fixed prostheses (71.9%)
