Prevalence Of Hypothyroidism In Women With Dental Problems

Abstract: Hypothyroidism is a clinical disorder commonly seen in India, as it is worldwide. Hypothyroidism is a common endocrine disorder resulting from deficiency of thyroid hormone or, more rarely, from their impaired activity at tissue level. Prevalence is 1.9% in women, and it increases with age. However, there is a poverty of data on the prevalence of hypothyroidism in the adult population of india. The aim of the study was to find the prevalence of hypothyroidism in women. The study was done taking Case records of patients taken of hypothyroid women. Clinical details were tabulated and analyzed. Descriptive statistical methods were used. We got a result out of a total of 149 hypothyroid women patients from age 18-69, the highest was in age 30 to 49 - 58.4%. The number of patients associated with systemic disease is 29%. The medication most used among the patients was L. Thyroxine which is 80% . Within the limits of the study we found that hypothyroidism in females were more common in age 30-49 and some were associated with systemic disease and all patients were under medications.
