Knowledge and Awareness of Factors Affecting Migratory Birds

Author: JANANI.K , DR. S PREETHA, DR. R ABILASHA, DR. LAVANYA PRATHAP
Abstract: Bird migration is the seasonal movement of birds for satisfying their needs. During migration, a lot of factors (both biotic and abiotic) influence them either positively or negatively. Biotic factors comprise humans and Predators. Abiotic factors affecting bird migration involve Pollution, Global warming, skyscrapers, electric towers, oil spills etc.. Migratory birds abide by celestial cues from the sun and stars, and inborn established routes. Majority of the avian species migrate to fulfil their demands. They migrate in response to depleting resources or due to undesirable conditions. Migrant birds often face several challenges during their flyover. The main objective of this study is to analyse the factors affecting migratory birds. Present study analyses 100 subjects (54 male, 46 female).15 questionnaire was framed and distributed through Google forms via WhatsApp link. Collected responses were transferred to SPSS IBM software and analysed statistically. Percentage analysis was done and the results were expressed in the form of bar graphs. Participants were quite highly aware of factors affecting migratory birds.
