The main goal of endodontic treatment is complete removal of bacteria, thereby products and pulpal remnants from infected root canals to provide complete sealing of root canals. Biocompatibility and stability are few essential properties for intracanal medicaments. Intracanal medicaments provide blockage against coronal leakage from the gap between the filling materials and cavity wall. Intracanal medicaments are recommended when treatment cannot be completed in one appointment and there are chances that surviving intracanal bacteria often proliferate between appointments. For this retrospective study, Conducted in Saveetha Dental College, Chennai Data was collected from patient records. A total of 3389 clinical cases were evaluated based on the intracanal medicament used in multi visit root canal treatment and retreatment cases of root canal therapy were selected for this study from patient records within the time frame of 10th June 2019 to 1st March 2020. Inclusion criteria consisted of teeth that were under endodontic treatment for patients of age group of 18 to 60 years of age, teeth with irreversible pulpal disease or chronic apical periodontitis, retreatment cases of root canal therapy. Exclusion criteria consisted of patients above 60 years, primary tooth, teeth in which root canal treatment was not undertaken, severely calcified canals, and teeth with severe periodontal disease. All the values were then statistically analysed. In this study, 3389 patients (1603 are females and 1786 were males) were included. It was observed that there was a significant difference between the type of intracanal medicament preferred for root canal treatment. Calcium hydroxide was the most preferred intracanal medicament over triple antibiotic paste and chlorhexidine for endodontic procedures in the majority of the cases (98.8%) with p value > 0.05.Within the limitations of this study, it was concluded that Calcium hydroxide is the most preferred intracanal medicament used in endodontic procedures for disinfection of the root canal system compared to chlorhexidine and triple antibiotic paste and showed better results.
