Evaluation of Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Teledentistry among Undergraduate Dental Students

Author: HIRANYA.S , HANNAH. R, V. VISHNU PRIYA
Abstract: Teledentistry is a blend of communication and dentistry which associates the exchange of information of health, images and treatment outlines in remote areas. Teledentistry has the capability to advance the approach to oral care by delivering oral health care at a reasonable cost in areas where there is reduced access to dental clinics. This is an alternative and innovative method of delivering oral health care. The aim of the study is to evaluate the awareness of teledentistry among undergraduate dental students. A cross sectional questionnaire survey was conducted among 100 undergraduate dental students. The questionnaire was circulated through google forms. The results were tabulated and appropriate statistics was done using SPSS software. The questions were separated based on knowledge, attitude and practice. From the results we can conclude 51% are aware of teledentistry; and most of them were introduced to it through workshops in college. 42% know the definition of teledentistry. Students also responded that teledentistry is most useful in the field of 5orthodontics and oral and maxillofacial surgery. 81% of the respondents affirm that teledentistry is a good tool to be used during lockdown. Within the limitations of the study, we can conclude that there is a need to increase awareness about the teledentistry among undergraduate students. In the present scenario of Covid 19 pandemic the use of teledentistry can be exploited as the access to dental clinics has decreased. Hence students should be made more aware of teledentistry as it is the need of the hour.
