Awareness and Knowledge in Transmission of Airborne Diseases in South Indian Population

Abstract:

An airborne disease is caused by a microorganism which is transmitted through the air. There are many airborne diseases of clinical importance, including bacteria, viruses and fungi. These organisms may be spread through sneezing, coughing, spraying of liquids that spread through dust or any activity that results in generation of aerosolized particles. The aim of the study is to create awareness in transmission of airborne disease in the south Indian population. A descriptive cross sectional survey was conducted among 100 people through a self-administrated questionnaire, the responses were collected and statistically analysed with SPSS software among the random south Indian population. The result reveals that 63.5% of the respondents were aware of spread of air borne diseases, where is 36.4% of the respondents were unaware of the modes of spreading of air borne diseases. The Chi-square test was done in association with gender and the awareness and knowledge in the spreading of air borne diseases in the south Indian population, which was not statistically significant. The a satisfactory survey was conducted knowledge and awareness about the spread of airborne diseases, was created among the south Indian population.
