Lichen planus is an inflammatory condition of the skin and mucous membrane and it is an autoimmune disease. Lichen planus is not a contagious disease. Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease which affects gingiva and periodontal ligament. The aim of the study is to find out the prevalence of periodontitis in lichen planus patients. 56 patients who visited Saveetha dental college, Chennai and were diagnosed with lichen planus were evaluated. The required data was collected and imported to SPSS software for analysis. The percentage of age distribution of 20-30 years of age (15.79%), 31-49 years of age (35.09%) and 50-69 years of age (49.12%). In present study, generalised chronic gingivitis was more prevalent in lichen planus patients of 20 - 30 age groups, generalised chronic gingivitis with localised chronic periodontitis was more prevalent in lichen planus patients of 31 - 49 age groups and generalised chronic periodontitis was more prevalent in lichen planus patients of 50 - 69 age groups. Chi square test showing P=0.002 (p<0.05 considered statistically significant). In the study population as the age increases there was an increased prevalence or presence of generalized chronic periodontitis.
