Preference And Frequency Of Commonly Performed Bleaching Techniques

Author: SAROJINI RAMYA PILLAY, SURENDAR SUGUMARAN, REMMIYA MARY VARGHESE
Abstract: Tooth bleaching is a common dental treatment with important psychosocial antecedents and outcomes involved. Present tooth-bleaching techniques are based upon hydrogen peroxide as the active agent. It is applied directly, or produced in a chemical reaction from sodium perborate or carbamide peroxide. To assess the prevalence of vital and non vital bleaching in adults in Chennai.A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted using the patient records from the Department of conservative and Endodontic, Saveetha Dental College, Chennai from June 2019 to April 2020, and patients who underwent bleaching treatment were selected by nonprobability sampling. Data was collected and then subjected to statistical analysis. Microsoft Excel/2016 (Microsoft office 10) data spreadsheet was used and later exported to the Statistical Package for Social Science for Windows (version 20.0, SPSS Inc., Chicago Ill., USA). The prevalence of vital bleaching treatment was the highest seen in 21-25 years of male patients (15.91%,). More males patients had undergone vital bleaching than female patients. There was an increase in the prevalence of non vital bleaching above the age of 40 years(22.73%),while majority of bleaching was performed in the age group of 21-25 years(15.91%).Considering the limitations of the bleaching technique ,extensive research needs to be done to find modification of the and to spread awareness among dentists on the necessity of such further advancements.
