Applications Of Platelet Concentrates In Endodontics - A Review

Author: KETHAN UMAKANTH, DR. BALAJI GANESH S, DR. SMILINE GIRIJA AS
Abstract: The use of platelet concentrates in endodontics is one of the recent advancements. They are novel bioregenerative materials. Platelet concentrates are of 3 generations which are: PRP, PRF, CGF and also A-PRF. These platelet concentrates are used for accelerating the healing of soft and hard tissues. This is a review article and the literature search for articles was included from online search, such as from PubMed, google search and Cochrane databases. Many studies have reported the advantages of platelet concentrates in regenerative endodontics. Platelet concentrate such as PRF, CGF, A-PRF can be used as successful scaffolds for the regeneration of pulpal contents, periapical healing, root lengthening, and dentinal wall thickening in immature teeth and is considered as a therapeutic biomaterial. Clinicians should be aware about the characteristics of different platelet concentrates so that they can choose the most successful one in clinical practice. Not much studies, especially randomized controlled clinical trials, are available about the usage of CGF, A-PRF, I-PRF, T-PRF in endodontics. Further long term studies are needed to know the efficacy of platelet concentrates in regenerative endodontics. Platelet concentrates are definitely the future of regenerative endodontics.
