Awareness on Causes of Paralysis Among Dental Students- A Survey

Abstract: Paralysis is the most popular medical condition that results in localised or generalised, partial or complete loss of muscle function of different parts of the body.Paralysis is caused due to conditions such as cerebral palsy,traumatic brain injury. Extraction of upper third molar tends to be a potential risk factor that might results in the popular medical condition paralysis.paralysis is noted to exist in various types such as Bell’s palsy,sleep paralysis,Todd’s paralysis,tick paralysis,periodic paralysis, monoplegia,diplegia.An online survey was conducted with a self prepared questionnaire among dental students with a sample size of 100 . The questionnaire was designed using the online survey platform “google forms” and through social media the questionnaire was circulated and responses were collected to perform a descriptive analysis test in the software “SPSS VERSION 20”. The findings of the present study was displayed in the form of pie charts.The present study 54.4% of survey population answered that they are aware of the condition “paralysis”,and about 22.3% of the respondents responded that they are partially aware and 23.3% of the participants were unaware of the causes and effects of the medical condition - paralysis.The study concludes that dental students are aware of the cause of the medical condition-paralysis.
