Abstract:

The consumption of fast food these days has increased. Along with them we consume the toxic food dyes and monosodium glutamate which are toxic to our health.Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a flavor enhancer commonly added to Chinese foods, canned vegetables, soups and processed meats. Synthetic food dyes are also called artificial colours. These are prepared by chemical processes. Some of the common food colours are tartrazine, sunset yellow, amaranth, allura red, quinoline yellow, brilliant blue and indigo carmine.But these are nowadays widely used in the fast foods.Therefore the aim of this study is to create an awareness on the various synthetic food dyes and additives used in fast food among South Indian population. Questionnaire was prepared and administered to 80 participants through google docs . Online survey was conducted among South Indian adults and the data collected was statistically analysed.This survey has created an awareness on the toxic food dyes added to the fast food among South Indian population also throws light on how people are aware of the various foods dyes used in fast food and the ill effects caused by consuming them
