Author: MUNA OMER ALAMOUDI
Abstract: The pituitary gland is considered the master gland of the human body as it secretes a group of important hormones that control the functions of most of the endocrine glands through. Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) is one of the pituitary hormones that control the function of thyroid glands. This review summarizes the important information about thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH), the hormone that regulates TSH secretion, as well as TSH itself. This information include the synthesis, expression and normal levels, regulation, functions, importance, degradation and finally the common disorders resulted from their disordered secretion. Hypo and hyperthyroidism represent the common thyroid disorder associated with TSH disturbed level. The common causes, manifestations and diagnosis of these disorders are summarized in this review.
