Antihyperglycaemic and Antioxidant Effects of Broccoli extract N-Butanol In STZ-Indused Diabetic Rats

Author: SUHA ALLAWI HUSSEIN, HAIDAR K.A. ALSAEDI
Abstract: In streptozotocin-induced diabetic rodents, this work aimed at an n-butanol extract of broccoli (Brassica olearacea) seed to boost lipid peroxidation and antioxidant status. Thirty-two adult Sprague-Dawley male rats were classes to four, non-diabetic regulation, and three classes with diabetes. Diabetes was caused by a single streptozotocin injection (60 mg / kg b.w., i.p.). Diabetic classes (II, III, and IV) drank with water drinking, n-butanol extract (60 mg / kg, b.w.), or insulin injected (4 IU / animal), And 28 days, respectively. On day 29, gain in body weight was reported, and male rats were sacrificed. Blood and liver subcellular fluid were collected to test blood glucose rates and Alanine aminotransferase(ALT),Aspartate aminotransferase(AST),catalase, Superoxidedismutase(SOD),Glutathione, GPxactivity, GR activity,(GSH)transferase and Malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione rates. Diabetic rats (II) displayed a marked rise in blood glucose, reduced weight gain, increased ALT, SOD, CAT, GSH-transferase, decreased GSH-reductase and regular AST activity. N-butanol celery seed extract (III) or insulin therapy (IV) moderated blood glucose within a reasonable range, decreased body weight gain and regulated the function of all antioxidant enzymes. In addition, broccoli seed n-butanol extract has a vital function to play in alleviating traumatic conditions caused by diabetes mellitus.
