Assessment of Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Post Endodontic Restorations Among Dentists in Chennai

Root canal treatment is one of the most commonly practiced dental procedures. Endodontic treatment weakens the tooth and alters its physical properties which increases the susceptibility of tooth to fracture. The treatment choices for restorative treatment following endodontic procedures are many. A careful selection of the post endodontic restorative treatment is must for strengthening the tooth and minimizing endodontic treatment failures by providing a good coronal seal. The aim of this survey is to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and practice of post endodontic restorative treatments among dentists in Chennai.
A questionnaire containing 18 questions was prepared on Google forms and circulated among dentists. The questions were based on knowledge, attitude and practice of post endodontic restorations. Of the 150 dentists, only 108 responded giving a response rate of 72%. The responses were viewed in the M.S Office excel sheet (V.2010) and the results were interpreted using graphs by SPSS 23.0 version. The dentists showed lack of theoretical knowledge regarding post endodontic restorations due to which application of concepts in clinical scenarios was poor. This survey indicated the need for educational intervention to improve the knowledge, attitude and practice of post endodontic restorations among dentists in Chennai.
