Background: Maxillary sinusitis is one of the most commonly encountered pathologies in patients with dental problems, this is hypothesized to have a correlation with dental procedures such as dental extraction, scaling, implant and root canal therapy. Studies have shown that unilateral maxillary sinusitis occurs followed by dental procedures in the maxillary arch and hence an aetiology behind this sinusitis.
Aim: To find out the association between the dental treatment and incidence of maxillary sinusitis.
Search strategy: The search was performed using Mesh terms and keywords in electronic databases PubMed, Cochrane, Science Direct and Google Scholar. Out of the 333 articles obtained from initial keyword search, 4 articles were chosen for the review after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria.
Results: The average age of population in the included study is around 49 years; the female predilection is more when compared to male. Amongst the Dental procedure, dental Implants was observed to be most commonly associated with unilateral purulent maxillary sinusitis.
Conclusion: The Average period of occurrence of maxillary sinusitis from the included study is between 1 and 3 months for which patients had clinical history such as Dental Implants, Extraction and Endodontic procedures.
