The aim of this study is to evaluate the facial aesthetics in leptoprosopic South Indian subjects from an orthodontist and a layperson’s point of view. Total of 30 sample photographs of long-faced individuals were collected for this study. Two questionnaire forms were sent to 102 participants out of whom - 52 were orthodontists and 50 were laypeople. The first questionnaire consisted of Likert-type scale which was used to determine orthodontists' and laypeople's perceptions about facial esthetics. The second questionnaire records the participant’s take on each facial feature. The records were collected in Google Sheets and the statistical analyses were performed using SPSS software 23.00. Chi-square and proportions tests were used for comparison between the examiners regarding the classification in each degree of esthetics. Majority of the evaluators found the subjects to be unpleasant [23.7% orthodontists and 24.6% laypersons] . The lay people were more critical about subjects who were considered very unpleasant (6.67%) whereas orthodontists were more critical about subjects who were considered more acceptable (11.27%). The results of the study showed that the orthodontists are more sensitive in their judgement towards facial characteristics compared to laypeople owing to their knowledge and experience.
