Design and assessment of Dipyridamole floating tablet dosage forms for gastro-retentive drug delivery

Author: RISHIKESH RAMMILAN BIND, VASIA, MANJUNATH U MACHALE, SHAZIA IRYN, NAGARAJA SREEHARSHA, SHAIK SADIK
Abstract: This work is intended to develop an optimized gastro-retentive floating tablet form of the blood dilator drug Dipyridamole. Compressed formulation tablets of the drugs were made using natural polymers such as methocel K4M, locust bean gum, xanthan gum and sodium bicarbonate as an effervescent system to increase the buoyancy. The blend constituents were subjected to a series of pre-formulation tests to assess the density and flow ability. Nine samples were formulated by varying the concentration of the polymers and physicochemical properties of the developed tablets were assessed. The synthesized tablets were then tested spectrophotometrically for in-vitro drug release in pH1.2. The controlled drug release rate studies of the optimized sample were found to be following zero-order kinetics.
