Abstract: Lung cancer is the second most prevalent cancer disease in worldwide. Several medicinal aspects have improved in synthetic formulations but the side effects of the chemotherapy have increased. To overcome cancer threats, the plants derived phyto-constituents have achieved to cure the particular tumorogenesis. The objective of the study is to screen the phytochemicals and in vitro anticancer potential of Trichodesma indicum against lung cancer cell line (A549). Methanol extract was chosen for this study to extract the major secondary metabolites, volatile molecule and screened its cytotoxic potential. Volatile pytoconstituents was identified by gas chromatography analysis and followed the cytotoxic effects of the extract by MTT assay. Results found that, methanol extract of Trichodesma indicum contains 131.55µg/g of total phenolic content and 275.15 µg/g of total flavanoid content. GC-MS study of methanol extracts showed the presence of a-tocopherol, tetracosanoic acid, stigmasterol and Eicosane as major constituents. The methanolic extract of the Trichodesma indicum showed greater inhibition capacity against lung cancer cell line (A549) showed up to 90% inhibition at the dose level of 85 µg/ml. This study concluded that, the methanol extract of Trichodesma indicum has acted as a potent anticancer agent. This is the first report of anti-cancer studies in Trichodesma indicum against lung cancer cell line.
