During this study, the influence of inhibition corrosion of mild steel by the chalcone derivative (Ch) [3- (4-chlorophenyl) -1-phenylprop-2-en-1-one] in 3.5% NaCl solution was used tried the weight loss process. The chalcone derivative was prepared by reaction 4-chlorobenzaldehyde with acetophenone. This compound (Ch) was determined by the melting point and FT. IR spectroscopy. The weight loss results showed that the effectiveness of the inhibitor (% IE) improved with a higher inhibitor concentration, achieved 75% higher inhibitory influence at 0.02 M and decreased with increased immersion time. The corrosion kinetics of mild steel in a salt environment using (Ch) was studied and the kinetic behavior of the data followed a pseudo first order -reaction. The adsorption of chalcone derivative (Ch) on the mild steel surface follows the adsorption isotherm models of Frumkin and Langmuir. The Gibbs free energy values obtained showed spontaneous adsorption of chalcone (Ch) on the surface of mild steel.
