Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) is a major global health problem, it can cause chronic infection and puts people at high risk of death from cirrhosis and liver cancer. This study aimed to determine the expression of MiRNA-155 (miR-155) in HBV patients’ group compared with apparently healthy as a control group. The study consists of three groups as Chronic Hepatitis B patient’s groups CHB (73), Inactive Carrier IC (20) and control group (42). The results revealed that miR-155 levels were higher in patients than in healthy controls with P= 0.001 On other side miR-155 levels were higher in carrier patients (15.077 ± 11.80) than from chronic patients with (7.980 ± 12.85), Interferon-a (INF-a) level was slightly higher in CHB with no significant correlation as in CHB group the mean and standard deviation value was (9.932± 4.955) ,in IC group was (8.472 ± 2.185) and in healthy group (8.393 ± 1.794). It was concluded that IC patients appear to have the highest level of miR-155 in the studied groups, this outcome suggest maybe that miR-155 responsible for inactivation of virus replication or it have improvement effects to immune system , till now the mechanism of miR-155 work is obscured and unknown.
