Bacterial vaginosis is a multiple organisms proliferation including ; Gardnerella vaginalis, Mobiluncus species , Mycoplasma hominis and Peptostreptococcus species. among women of reproductive age . Up to 50% of affected women are asymptomatic . This is Interventional prospective study enrolled 100 women; divided in two groups . Group A (volunteer on oral contraceptive pills)included 50 clients , with mean age of 29.04. Group B (volunteer on natural contraceptive methods) included 50 clients with a mean age 30.04 . According to Amsel criteria for diagnosis of BV found that 3 samples from group A have three out of or four of Amsel criteria and diagnosed as having bacterial vaginosis .While 7 sample of a group B have three out of four or four of Amsel criteria and diagnosed as have bacterial vaginosis. Incidence of Bacterial vaginosis in group A (users of combined oral contraceptives) was 3 (6%) , while incidence of bacterial vaginosis in a group B (clients on natural contraceptive) was 7 (14%). Relative risk is = Incidence of Bacterial vaginosis in group A ÷ Incidence of Bacterial vaginosis in group B . RR=6% ÷ 14% = 0.42 mean Relative risk was less than 1 , that mean less likely COCP user to develop Bacterial vaginosis . Odds ratio = 0.3± CI (0.0953 – 1.6130) that mean combined oral contraceptive pill is significant associated with an increase in colonization of commensally lactobacilli and decrease of B.V . OOR =2.5 For two groups mean group B more probably to develop bacterial vaginosis than group A .
