Abstract:

Alcohol accounts not only for health related costs pertaining to physical and psychological adverse effects but also
to the psychosocial harm caused by the affected. The effect of alcohol on health varies dependent on the
quantityexpended, drinking duration, type of alcohol and frequency, conservational factors and genetic
predisposition of the separate. This study aimed at studying the pattern of cognitive impairment usingfew of the
common tools which are used to assess supervisoryutilities of theFrontal Lobe like the Digit symbol substitution
test, Benton Visual retentiontest Trail Making test A & B and Wisconsin Card sorting test.The harshness of
Alcohol requirement was evaluated using the Severity ofAlcohol Dependence questionnaire. Other Comorbid
Psychiatric conditionswere ruled out using the Mini international neuropsychiatric interview-6. Andquality of life
determined by the WHO Quality of Life BREF Questionnaire.The study showed that cognitive impairment was
highly prevalentduring the first month of abstinence and showed statistical significance in theamount of alcohol
ingesting per day and severity of alcohol dependence.
