Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis of Some Hazardous Ingredients in the Brands of Hair Dyes Available in Iraqi Commercial Markets by Involving Anti-Oxidant

Author: ALI MUAYAD NAFEA
Abstract: In this study, some intermediate compounds that commonly uses as participant in preparing hair dyes are selected. Which are supposed to be present in reasonable and permitted concentrations in these dyes. According to the EU cosmetic directive to investigate those concentrations installed on their commercial packaging (1,4-phenylenediamine, 2,4-diaminotoluene, resorcinol, p-anisidine, p-aminophenol, o-aminophenol and pyrogallol), although (the latter type pyrogallol has decreased significantly, due to the concern of its toxicity). In contrast, different colors of oxidized hair dye are selected from some brands available in the Iraqi commercial markets. A fixed volume of a specific concentration of the antioxidant, are used and added to all standard solutions of intermediate compounds prepared at different concentrations by using (HPLC) device technique. A fixed phase composes from column packed with amide bonded (C18) silica; and the mobile phase composes of acetonitrile and distilled water. All selected standard solutions are prepared in acetonitrile and distilled water with gallic acid as an antioxidant. Compounds are detected at the wavelength (280nm). Calibration curves and retention times (tR) are obtained for each of the prepared solutions. The identification of the intermediates of oxidative hair dyes in a sample is achieved by comparing their HPLC-retention times (tR) and 280nm spectra with the tR and spectra of the standard solutions. In the same way and under the same above mentioned conditions the antioxidant is injected with different oxidizing hair dyes that available in commercial markets. The quantification of the identified substances is performed in those dyes by using of calibration curves of the respective standard solutions and they are identified the targeted results.
