Evaluation of Serum Zinc, Copper Level and Relation with Concentration of T4, T3 in Hyperthyroidism

Author: ADIL MOHAMMED HASHIM, GHADEER HAMID AL-ARDHI, AHMED HAMEED RASHEED
Abstract: Hyperthyroidism is a clinical case result from hyperactivity of thyroid hormones. The objective of this study is to shed more light on the role of trace metals and their mode of action in hyperthyroidism. We planed to estimate the concentration of serum copper and zinc in patient serum compared with healthy person as control. Plasma levels of thyroid hormones were measured using enzyme immunoassay method (EIA). Trace elements wear measured using atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). In this study we took 36 patient sample with 36 normal subject and determine the thyroxin, thyronine hormone concentration by EIA technique also copper, zinc concentration by (AAS). The results showed that patient with hyperthyroidism was higher level T4 andT3 hormones compared with control sample. Also a significant increase in serum copper level was demonstrated in patients while decrease in level of serum zinc concentration compared with normal subjects. Trace element in biological fluids can be used as diagnostic aid with other Biochemical parameter in patients with different hormonal disorders.
