This study includes the preparation of fourteen new derivatives of the drug metronidazole (MTX). Investigation of the best way to reduce the nitro group to form the amino derivative established by using different reagents. Then the amino metronidazole treated with a variety of aromatic aldehydes and anthrone to give the Schiff bases derivatives A2-A15. The structures of the synthesized compounds confirmed by the FT-IR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. The antibacterial activity evaluated for some of the prepared compounds against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus in comparison with Amoxicillin and Ampicillin as a control. They showed promising antibacterial potency.
