A study of the Ultrasonographic Cross Sectional Area [CSA] and fascicular changes of Ulnar nerve in patients newly diagnosed with Hansen’s disease

Author: MAANASA. T.J, SUNDARAMORTHY SRINIVASAN
Abstract: The oral form of the drug caused severe nausea and gastric irritation, while the parental route caused intense pain. Hence it was not followed by the patients regularly and most of them becamedefaulters. Acid fastness is due to the lipid component of the cell wall, which binds the dye (carbolfuschin) making the outer cell surface hydrophobic. The acid fast staining bacilli appear as pinkcoloured bacilli with the appearance of tightly packed bundles of cigars. The developmenthistorical of Hansen`s disease ranges from 2 to 7 years (usually 3-5years) .The target of lepra bacilli is known to be the Schwann cells. Cell mediated immunity regulatesthe spectrum of the disease.Humans are the major host and reservoirs of the bacilli. Leprosy has also been naturallyacquired in the armadillos, chimpanzee, mangabey and macaque monkeys.Depending upon the cell mediated immunity, the patients can either upgrade or downgrade. It is characterized by geographic, erythematous infiltrated plaques with a punched out or “inverted saucer” appearance with variable nerve damage. The skin lesions are infiltrated with diffuse epithelioid cells, with scantylymphocytes
Keyword: Armadillos, lymphocytes, chimpanzee,Compound muscle action potential ,fuschin, mangabey and Schizomycete.
