Therapeutics Properties of Punica Granatum

Abstract: The use of herbal medicine or natural products is gaining importance in the current era. In Spite of technological advances in the medical field,there is demand for herbal medicine among people globally because they are more affordable and accessible than conventional medicine. Fruits serve as an important component in every day human diet since they are rich in vitamins and minerals. Pomegranate (Punica Granatum) has several benefits to health. It has great nutritional values , which helps to maintain the human body in a normal condition. Pomegranates help in the treatment of various risk factors namely high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol level, oxidative stress and inflammatory activities. It has many active components in it. The component in the pomegranate like polyphenols have potential anticarcinogenic property, antimicrobial property and antioxidant property.The biological properties and the importance of punica granatum in good health and its pivot role in prevention. A literature review was carried out from scopus pubmed database. Parts of this fruit such as flower, fruit and seed can be utilized in the food industry. Prevention and treatment of various diseases can be cured and prevented. This review briefs the therapeutic uses of Punica granatum.
