Awareness Of Hydrocolloid Impression Materials

Author: , ANANYA.R, DR. KEERTHI SASANKA.L, DR. EZHILARASAN, VINAY SIVASAMY
Abstract: Intraoral structures are recorded using impression materials for definitive restoration fabrications. The quality of these final restorations is highly dependent on the materials and techniques used for making the impression. Hydrocolloids are of a high hydrophilic nature that enables this material to capture accurate impressions in the presence of some saliva or blood. It has a low wetting angle so it can easily capture impressions of the full arch. Compared with other impression materials, it has moderate ability to reproduce detail and costs relatively little. It isn't precise enough for the fabrication of the fixed partial dentures which are used for partial impressions of the structure. The agar and alginate are two types of hydrocolloids used in dental impressions. To create awareness about the organically derived impression materials among UG Dental students a cross sectional questionnaire was formatted and distributed to the UG Dental students of various colleges. The resulting data was analysed using IBM SPSS statistics software.. After receiving the statistical results with the help of SPSS software. Hence this study assesses the awareness among the UG dental students about the advantages and disadvantages of organically derived impression material, it was clear that 88.9% of them are aware of organic impression materials.
